For the vast majority of domestic dwellings electrical supply companies are bound by legislation to provide power up to 25kW (100 amps). However most homes use a maximum of 15kW and normally will be running at around 5 to 8kW. (20 to 30 amps).

Diesel - GAS or Petrol ?
Petrol engines - These have far too many Health and Safety issues to make them viable for home use for anything other than powering portable tools.
Diesel engines - At first look these are the best bet, however if you are looking for 15 kW or below then they are far too expensive.
GAS engines - Now we are talking real value for money for Home and Small office standby generators.
